My Zero Waste Night Time Routine

My night-time routine has changed drastically over the last year! It has taken me some time to get into a specific routine, but now that I have, I think it is so beneficial. I incorporate a lot of self-care into my nightly routine – something I didn’t do enough of in the past. I know self-care is almost being preached nowadays, but is really is so important. I really encourage everyone to make some time for yourself during the evenings, if you can. You can start small and build your way up! Before you know it you will have yourself a little routine! I promise you, you will feel so much better for it! Here I share what I do and I hope it inspires some of you.

Disclaimer: A few of the items mentioned in this post were kindly gifted to be me an amazing UK-based company called Green Alternatives. They have an amazing range of products on their website for those looking to make eco-friendly switches and they also share great tips on how you can reduce the amount of plastic you put in your bin. All products from their website that I have included in this post are my honest opinion of the products. I genuinely love everything on their website as someone who is passionate about living a low-waste lifestyle. They have all the products you need to get started on your journey to consuming less plastic and generating less waste in general. They always ship plastic-free too!

Let’s get into it…!

  1. Have a Quick Tidy-up & Turn Down my Bed: This is something so small, but since I have started doing this, I just feel so much more relaxed. Knowing that I am going to wake up to tidy surroundings already takes the stress out of tomorrow!
  2. Make my lunch for work the next day: I always like to prepare my lunch the night before so that I can just grab it and go in the morning. Making my own lunches helps me maintain healthy eating habits and I am less likely to want to buy food, so it saves me a lot of money. I love to wrap my lunches in the reusable Boc’n’Roll food wraps and pop everything in the fridge for the next day. They are perfect for wrapping sandwiches and they’re so easy to clean – you can just pop them in the wash! Reusable wax food wraps are also great!

3. Head in the Shower: If had a shower that didn’t go hot and cold constantly, this would be a much more enjoyable experience! Ha! Ha! Hopefully you don’t have the same issue! My favourite shower products are from Lush Cosmetics. You can return the empty pots and shower gel caps to Lush once you have used up all the product and Lush will recycle them into new packaging. This way you can guarantee that the packaging will be recycled. You get a free face mask for every 5 pots returned. You can read more about this on the Lush website. The clear shower gel bottle is also fully recyclable. I ADORE the ‘Sleepy’ product range – it is perfect for night time and smells divine! I could literally eat it! I always moisturise after my shower and this time I used the matching Lush ‘sleepy’ body lotion. It is my favourite! I obviously use my trusty fave Lord safety razor too!

4. Cleanse & Moisturise: Once I’m out of the shower and smelling like a Goddess, I like to do my skincare routine! It’s super basic, but I think simple is best for my sensitive skin! I use the Friendly Skin Cocoa Butter Facial Soap. I love this facial soap in particular because is so creamy and moisturising – it leaves my skin so soft! It will also last you FOREVER and just comes in a cardboard box that you can easily recycle! All I do is lather up a little in my hands with warm water and gently cleanse my face with the product that’s on my hands in circular motions with my fingers. I wipe away all the product using my Tabitha Eve bamboo face cloth, that I also dampen with warm water. This is literally the softest face cloth EVER! I close my pores by splashing my face with cold water then I moisturise with a little Jojoba oil. Finally I brush my teeth using my Green Alternatives bamboo toothbrush!

5. Wind down: Next, I like to get changed in to my cozy loungewear and climb into bed. I keep my One Line a Day Diary on my bedside table so I don’t forget to fill it in each night. I prefer it WAY more than a normal diary because I can never manage to stick to normal diaries! I find the idea of just writing one line a day a lot less daunting! Then, I like to enjoy a cup of loose leaf tea in bed (I compost the tea leaves after) and then I do a quick 5 minute meditation using the Insight Timer app. I like to meditate in bed at night because it puts my mind at ease and makes me sleepy – ready to fall asleep.

I would love to hear what you like to do to relax before bed. What are your favourite self-care products?

All my love, Megan xxx

Vegan Old School Chocolate Shortbread Recipe!

Whilst on lockdown in the UK, what better time to share this recipe with you all! This recipe makes me SO nostalgic and takes me straight back to my school days! I think we are all in need of some comfort food during these scary times! This was one of my favourite desserts at school and I sure have missed it since going vegan! Here is my ‘veganised’ version for you all (but it tastes exactly like the original!) It is perfect to try if you are lactose intolerant or vegan yourself, but I have tried and tested this with people who aren’t vegan or lactose intolerant – they love it too! I have included substitutes if you are not vegan.
